“ The highlight of my trip was learning about their education system for youth workers. I believe that training will reduce burnout and the high turnover rate in the field of youth work in the U.S.” .”

The core mission of the International Youth Worker Exchange is learning and understanding youth and youth work by actually working alongside a colleague in another country. With that goal in mind, The Journey invited delegates from the Community and Youth Worker Union we had met in the United Kingdom to visit Indiana from October 17-26, 2006 to observe youth work in our state.

Their stay included:

a meeting with representatives from Girls Inc and the National Collaboration for Youth;
screenings of films during the Heartland Film Festival;
attending a Colts game;
working in modules designed to connect UK youth workers with Indiana youth workers who have been part of the Journey Fellowship in a meaningful to exchange ideas about what inspire us and challenge us as we work with young people; and
staying with a host family and shadowing youth workers in Indiana
